Bullers Wood School For Girls

School Council

The Student Voice is incredibly important to us and together we work to make the school a better place.  Student Voice is made up of the Student Leadership Team, led by our Head Students, the School Council, the House Captains, Eco representatives and Diversity representatives.

Each form has the opportunity to elect two school council representatives who share the views of their form at the year council meeting with their Head of Year.  Two students from each year group then bring the views and ideas of their cohort forward to the school council, with Mrs Seall (Assistant Headteacher).   The school council meet once every half term and agree on key actions and issues to focus on for the academic year.

Many changes and innovations have come about through the work of the School Council.  Past achievements we are particularly proud of include the introduction of our Culture Day, new canteen provisions and recycling bins.  There are also many charity and celebration events that are championed by the Student Voice including Pride, Stop Hate and clothes swaps.

We are consulted on many matters, such as the appointment of the new Headteacher, curriculum changes, dress code, ways to encourage attendance and behaviour and contact books.  Student leaders attend governors’ meetings and get a real insight into the running of a school. There are opportunities for student councils to meet with other student councils to discuss local and national issues. Each year group will participate in the Bromley youth manifesto event, which is linked to the BYC (Bromley Youth Council.) Bullers Wood students have become members of the BYC and have taken part in meetings at the Houses of Parliament. Each term the school council has representatives speaking at both year and main school assemblies updating the students and promoting student voice.

If you have any other ideas or issues that you would like the school council to discuss please speak to any of the council representatives who will forward your thoughts to the council.
